"In January 2026, I set out to capture the Northern Lights dancing over Mono Lake, only to be completely shut out by a wall of thick lake fog. Admitting defeat, I headed home toward June Lake—and that's when luck took over. Spotting an empty turnout along SR 158, I pulled off, scrambled to set up my tripod, and managed to squeeze off just four or five shots before the amber and orange colors faded into the night.
